Sculptural optimism, JW Anderson AW21

Sculptural optimism, JW Anderson AW21

Jonathan Anderson continues the take on an abstract form of fashion in his latest AW21 collection incorporating ceramist Magdalene Odundo and performance artist Shawanda Corbett in an intertwined fashion-art collaboration.

This collection explores the flatness of drawings and paintings translated into sculptural silhouettes draped around the body tying all the elements together.  With big bell-shaped dresses, sculptural petal-like coats, cocoon-like knit jumpsuits all showcased in a pandemic-era collection whilst still capturing the joy and excitement of a catwalk spectacle. - iD

Championing the curation of art and imagery within fashion, Anderson focuses on "totemic structures" vessels as a form of sharing information, and translating shapes into wearable pieces describing it as "things that are kind of elongated or of abnormal volumes" spoken in a video message from the founder and creative director himself.

Working with extreme 3D forms Anderson’s curated portal explains his process and honesty to the project from “the archetypal trench coat to hem-heavy silk dresses” - Vogue.
